Once upon a time, what feels like a lifetime ago, Mr D & I decided we’d like a tree change. Work was changing for us and family life was tough. It was now or never.
We’d bought a 6 acre property in the peaceful little town of Nannup nestled on the Blackwood River in the South of Western Australia as a holiday house the year before and had really struggled to leave our little piece of paradise every Sunday night to head back to the big smoke of Perth and the real world.
So, we sold our house, packed our bags, loaded the dogs into the car and moved to Nannup. And for six years that’s where we stayed.
We bought and sold a cafe, lost two beautiful dogs, spent 3 months travelling through Europe, built up a business, had two precious babies and made lifelong friends that became my family. I have had some of the best times of my life in this town and this house.
Even though we made the call to move back to Perth it was not a decision made lightly and there is nothing we love more than packing up the car and getting back to our home away from home in gorgeous Nannup.
And that’s where we are this last week of the school holidays. It’s my favourite time of year here, the air is fresh and cold, everywhere is green and gold, our fire is on and the wine is red!
I’m enjoying seeing The D Man experience this place as he gets older, the thrill of the kangaroos, the rabbits, the birds and the emus, surely he has seen them all before, but no, it’s all brand new each time and so exciting!
And Oaks who spent the first four and a half years of her life here, gets to catch up with her bestest friend in the whole wide world. I love to see their friendship remain unchanged from visit to visit, with those two it as if time has stood still, what a magical bond they have. But that’s another story I’ll save for another time!
