If there’s a trend that’s pretty polarising right now – it has to be faux fur. Do you think it’s not for you? Think again – there just might be a way to embrace the warm snuggly trend that is fake fur!
No matter how little or how far you’d like to take this trend, there’s something for everyone in terms of both style & budget. It’s everywhere – designer to the high street, faux fur is in!
It’s all about how you wear your faux fur. A bright pink furry jacket might look a little over the top with jeans & sneakers – but with a simple black dress it’s quite divine! On the other hand, a basic shearling jacket in a neutral colour like tan or beige, will work hard for you on weekends with jeans & boots. And don’t get me started on animal print – I love it! Team a leopard inspired print with black basics to make your jacket a truly statement piece that will work on a lunch with the girls or a glam date night.
Let’s take a look at some of the faux fur styles that are available everywhere right now.
The Muppet Fur
Don’t be afraid of what I call the “Muppet Fur.” You CAN wear this without looking ridiculous! The key is choosing a colour that works for you. For me, a dark green or a maroon is going to be a colour that will work into my existing wardrobe without being over the top. The cut is important too – the shorter the jacket the less it will look like you’re wearing a Muppet on your back – add some long layers underneath to soften the effect. No collar or a removable collar will help with lessening the Muppet impact as well. Of course – embrace the Muppet look wholeheartedly if that’s the right thing for you!
Also known the Teddy Coat – this neutral but oh so cuddly coat is turning up on fashion icon’s everywhere. The neutral shade makes it easy to integrate into your wardrobe & the snuggle factor works both casual & formally. Whether this is a piece you’ll wear long after this season, I’m not totally sure, but it is certainly something fun!
The Shearling Jacket
Yes, the shearling coat of the 1970s is back! If your parents are hoarders it’s likely there’s one of these tucked away in a suitcase somewhere from back when they rocked one the first time around! It’s fur inside out which makes for a snuggly jacket option on cold days whilst keeping your exterior clean & sleek. You’ll find shearlings in a multitude of colour combinations & lengths, but I love the retro tan with a shorter length for timeless style.
Yep, there’s even a way to incorporate your fave feline into your furry wardrobe this Winter! I love some animal print, it really does stand the test of time. Teamed with some basic black or jeans it’s easy to dress up or down. And nothing says fun like animal print!
Not brave enough to do the full fur? Don’t worry – there’s something for you too. A furry collar, hood, vest or even a pom pom hanging from your handbag are little easy ways to incorporate the faux fur trend into your wardrobe. You might already have a fur trim in your wardrobe you’d forgotten about!
So what do you think? Is there room for some faux fur in your winter wardrobe?
