Our first day in HK was spent orientating, which meant getting lost quite a bit & walking in circles a little bit & drinking quite a lot of Coke. We’ll put it down to jetlag, and the heat!
We had a massive sleep that night & woke up ready to go! Nothing opens here until 10-11am which makes it hard to get up & get started. Mel is still yet to find a decent coffee, I couldn’t even get her in the door of a Starbucks yesterday, even for the air con, have I mentioned the heat!? Today might be the day…..
We are staying at the Mercer Boutique Hotel in Sheung Wan, which is apparently the new up & coming hipster area. We are going to explore around here a little today & check it out. The hotel is in a great location, an easy walk to the bars & restaurants of Soho, shopping in Central & the ferry.
We really enjoyed the Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan, so peaceful & beautiful with hundreds of incense coils hanging from the ceiling.
Yesterday we caught the ferry over to Kowloon, trawled Nathan Road, had a funny lunch in a little cafe, the waitress actually pushed me, “sit, sit!!!!”. Hilarious. We bought loads of ridiculous market junk from the Ladies Market & Temple Street Night Market. Couldn’t convince Mel to get her fortune told…
Had another funny meal at Temple Street alfresco stalls. Yummy chicken & veg. Mel asked for a knife to cut her Bok Choi, the waitress came out with some kitchen scissors, gave them a rinse under the kettle out the front, then came over & chopped up our veggies!! We couldn’t stop laughing! It was so hot we had sweat running down unmentionable places & drank two large beers!!! Fantastic night!
Tried to get back to the foreshore at Tsim Sha Tsui for the light show, got to see the last minute, but in hindsight it meant we missed the crowds & got a front row view of the amazing skyline at night. It’s a beautiful city.
Nearly rocked to sleep on the ferry on the way home, ready to start another day. Stay tuned folks!
