The May 2018 Edition: Active wear!
Here we are 3 months in to the monthly segment we here like to call Bang or Bucks! Shopping for fashion with a luxe to less budget!
Beth from Almost Posh & Stacey from Stace McGregs, are here to help me sort out the best fashion buys of the month within a certain budget. And just to make things interesting this month, we’ve all been given a theme to shop by – Active wear. Something we all need, although some of us might lean a little more to the “lounge-wear/sports-luxe” genre!
I’ve given the three of us a hypothetical clothing spend for our Active wear this month.
Beth has $150, Stacey $300 & I get an awesome $600.
I’m super interested to see what we’ll all choose to spend our money on each month. Will it be an entire outfit or just one special piece? Do we shop with care & consideration, or do we fly by the seat of our pants & go mad with our bucks? In six months time we’ll look back on what each of us got for our moola & how they added to our wardrobes.
So, without further ado – let’s see what’s in our Shopping Carts for May!
This month, we’ve been assigned active wear as the theme for Bang or Bucks. Whether you’re busting it hard at the gym or doing the school run followed by coffee catch ups, there is no reason why you can’t look cute AND have enough coin for a lactose-free latte.
You and I both know you have the song running through your head but if you’re on the hunt for new active wear (active wear, active wear) then you can get some great value, not to mention a whole outfit by heading to Cotton On & Co – which I did with my $150 hypothetical Australian dollars.
First, you’re going to want some decent tights, the foundation of an activewear ensemble. Whether you like them plain coloured or jazzily patterned, this fleece lined tight will keep you cozy during those chilly winter mornings, has a nice wide waistband, is available up to size 2XL and there are 16 different colourways to choose from! Only $29.95.
I personally prefer a tee style top when working out but if you’re into a tank, then you’re in luck, because you can get this one in 6 different colours to coordinate with your snazzy tights. Just $19.95.
And if you really want to team to a theme and your bust can handle it, why not add a matching crop into the mix for $24.95? Available in 15 colourways to match the snazzy leggings *cries tears of jealousy*
It’s going to be chilly until you warm up, so you’ll want a cozy hoodie to wrap up in. I like this one in particular because it’s long enough to cover your business, available in 8 colours and in sizes XXS to 3XL & did I mention – just $34.95!
While I would recommend investing in a serious sports shoe if you’re doing anything high impact that requires proper cushioning and arch support, if you’re doing yoga or pilates (or the school drop-off) then it doesn’t need to be quite so high tech. These slip on trainers from Rubi keep your look sleek and your feet cute. A steal at $29.95.
All this and you can still grab an active zip towel ($5!!!) and have change for a protein ball.
This month’s theme for my imaginary shopping spree is ‘Active wear’. Now I love active wear for the gym, sport, Marathon running…. oh why I lie… I love wearing active wear to brunch. Yes, I brunch in active wear, I am one of those ladies and proud of it!
This month I’ve spent my $300 on this Ivy Park Women’s Short Sleeve Tee – why? – because it’s Beyonce’s affordable active wear line. I liked it so I put link on it (below) – it’s $50.
Also these Active Truth – Smart Pocket Full Length Tight in black for $119. These bad boys suck you in where it’s needed and are squat proof… I tested that when I dropped my change buying my skinny cappuccino, and had to squat to pick it up.
My fave feature is the smart phone pocket big enough to fit my Iphone 6+
To complete my ‘Brunch active wear’ look, I’ve chosen the Lorna Jane Long line Cardi which is great for a bit of butt coverage, and perfect for a brunch chic look. It’s $129.99.
Total spend: $298.99 – we can round that up to a perfect $300 if you like!
This month I confirmed what I already know – active wear can be pricey! Especailly when a decent pair of runners can set you back $200!
Lucky for me though I have a whole hypothetical $600 to play with for my active wear, so let me show you what I spent that cash on this month!
I am a big fan of Aussie girl Pip Edwards who created the label P.E. Nation using her signature “sports-luxe/ath-leisure” totally lust worthy style. I’ve had my eye on this Core Jacket for a while & at $269 it’s certainly an investment piece. It’s got pockets, you can zip it up & it’s waterproof so I’m thinking I’ll get lots of wear out of it watching the kids sport & outdoor activities over winter as well as wearing it to the gym. This jacket is a major purchase so I’m going to base the rest of my purchases around it, with it’s play on a retro track & field kind vibe.
Next up are runners, no active wear look is complete without them! I’ve chosen these Nike Training Free Sneakers ($209) to match the jacket. I love this new sock style & they’ll totally be wearable even if I’m not training.
Matching it with this cute Missguided red bra from Lorna Jane at $66.99.
Last but not least, I am a t-shirt over a tank kinda gal. I don’t like my training tops clingy & I like some length, so I’ve chosen this Ellesse tee from ASOS for $40.
And just like that, my $600 total has been reached!
I’m pretty happy with my purchases, although it’s crazy to think I have just one outfit here for $600! Should I have scrimped somewhere to invest in a couple of pairs of tights to get me through the week? Hell no, that jacket & those sneakers are the bomb! I’ll just have to do the washing more frequently! So worth it!
There you go – your Luxe to Less Active wear – which one would you choose?
