2019 – I’m Ready

January 15, 2019

It’s already the second week of a whole shiny new year!

I’ve been thinking a lot, as one is prone to do this time of year, about what I’d like to achieve this year, both personally & professionally, mentally & physically.

There’s always talk about a word for your new year.  Last year mine was FOCUS.  I’m not entirely sure how that went, but I’m giving it another go this year with READY.

Firstly, I’m going to say YES more.  As a raging introvert, the whole, “now you’re a grown up it’s time to say no to things & people more often”, well, that was totally easy for me!  I say no to stuff all the time!  What I think I need to do in 2019 is the exact opposite!  I need to say yes to the social events, the extra work & pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I need to do more of everything!

I’m going to stick to my fitness.  Last year I stuck to my FOCUS & made exercise part of my routine.  I was just discussing with one of my gym gals how far we’d come with our fitness since the same time last year.  I have to admit I’m pretty proud of myself.  I’m not going to be running a marathon anytime soon, but I feel that my strength & my stamina has come a long way in the last 12 months & I don’t want to lose that.

My wardrobe.  I’m old enough to know what works for me & what doesn’t in terms of clothing.  But I’m a lover of fashion & trends so it’s totally hard for me to not get caught up in all the pretty pictures on Instagram & to indulge in way too much online shopping!  My goal this year is to reduce my clothing & accessory shopping, for both me & the kids.  More op-shopping which I love, and lots more of shopping my own wardrobe instead of buying something new. (If you’re looking to streamline your wardrobe & you’re in Perth – have I got the girl for you! Check out my mate Nat at The Other F Word!)

I am going to read more.  Full stop.

I am going to be a better friend.  Less texting & more real time catch ups.  A half hour coffee is better than nothing at all.  And who doesn’t love a good chat with someone near & dear?

Forty Up needs some work.  I let Instagram get me down.  Comparison is a thief & I’m not going to let that happen. I will focus on what I love & remember that Forty Up is something I do for good, not evil!  It’s meant to be what I love to do, not something that becomes a burden. In saying that, there’s areas I need to re-assess.  Both Mr D & my kids have expressed their dislike at their Forty Up appearances on social media & I need to respect that.  But Forty Up has always had a big family component.  I love showcasing what’s on offer in my state & further afield & not including my family in that will take some getting my head around.  So stay tuned, I haven’t figured out in entirety how I will manage this element but I’m going to try to make it work! Working on Forty Up more as a business in terms of my organisation is something I’d like to perfect this year too.  Starting with my work space! If only you could see what I’m sitting surrounded in right now….

It’s my 20th wedding anniversary next month! 20 years married to a man I both adore & loathe depending on what day it is! I’ve learnt so much over the time we’ve spent together & he is my very best friend. We’ve experienced highs & lows & I think we can both see a glimmer of the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m going to remind myself of just how incredibly lucky I am.  I’m looking forward to a year of moving forward together after feeling a little stuck for a while now. Our kids will be 12 & 8 in 2019 – wowzers!

My health.  Mr D has had a few health issues & scares this year. He’s crazy into his fitness but not so much into his health, if that makes sense?! So creating healthy meals that both he & the kids love is going to become a priority. I’m also not going to drink so much.  I think this makes it onto my New Year’s Resolution list every year, but this time I mean it.  Booze & I just don’t agree these days, I’m going to blame it on Menopause & old age & leave it there!

And I’m going to have a lot of FUN! With my friends, with my family, with my kids & on my own!

It’s nice to see, reading back through this that a lot of what I’m focusing on this year are things that I already started back in 2018.  I like the idea that I’ve found a bit of a groove that I’m happy with & sticking to it. Big pat on the back to me!

What about you? Tell me EVERYTHING!
