Last month I took part in a community based element of the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival called Restyle 2015. The community was asked to post images of outfits they had created from Op Shops using the prompts provided by the Festival onto social media. (You can check out my Instagram photos here)
At the end of the project, participants were asked to walk in the Restyle Runway parade showcasing their prompt & how they incorporate op shop finds into their everyday wardrobes.
I was super excited to be part of this group alongside Perth designers, models, creatives & the wider op-shop community & even more excited that my prompt was “Sports Luxe” – no high heels on the catwalk for me baby! Phew!
We walked 2 parades, one on the Friday & the other on Sunday afternoon, both in the main marquee in Forrest Chase, the centre of Perth’s CBD.
I must be honest & confess that I was a terrible model. I was so overcome with nerves I really could have written off the entire weekend. I didn’t sleep & constantly felt either violently ill or ready to pass out. I was that bad!!
I did however, have a great time meeting the rest of the Restyle crew – they were a truly awesome group of people. Super talented & super committed. And I can check Super Model off my Bucket List of things to do now I guess!!!
I tried to capture the mood of the pre-show for you in my 10 on 10 photos this month.
I have a new camera which I am still playing around with, but I’m pretty happy with how these have come out (considering how much my hands were shaking – ha ha!).
I have cheated a little & put in some pics by some other people just to explore the entire Restyle Runway experience! (I also technically missed the deadline to join in my usual Clever Cookie Photography circle, but you can check them all out here, starting with my great friend Jo at You Had Us At Hello.)
Restyle Runway 2015 – Telstra Perth Fashion Festival
So, I needed to be in hair & make up at 7am in the city!! 7am, I repeat, 7am!!! But damn, Perth looked pretty at that time of the day! I got a little side-tracked taking happy snaps of the buildings..
So here it is, the main Marquee, right in the middle of the CBD where I’ll be strutting my stuff!
Hair & Makeup. I had no idea this would take so long!!! It’s a hot mess of early starts, nerves, endless cups of coffee & gossip!!
The aim of Restyle Runway was to not only support WA’s charity organisations but to show that fashion doesn’t need to cost a fortune!
